THE MAKENA GOLF COURSES Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., this unique gem boasts 36 spectacular holes of the most pristine golf imaginable. Well known for its layout, the NORTH and SOUTH COURSES are located on 1,800 acres of unspoiled, natural beauty, and is the home of the Hawaii State Open. The NORTH COURSE goes out of its way to make golfers feel at one with their natural surroundings.... unobstructed views of the blue Pacific, neighboring islands, and humpback whales breaching during whale season. To make it feel more like a nature walk and less like a golf course, even cart paths on the North Course are tucked away and hidden from view. Natural Hawaiian rock walls are left right where they were found, and they play an integral part in the course design. Natural gullies and streambeds are also left intact, along with Makena¹s indigenous kiawe trees. The best view of the North Course comes where you¹d expect to find it: part-way up the mountain on the thirteenth hole, overlooking the clubhouse and the natural rolling terrain that leads right up to the ocean.... more The SOUTH COURSE provides the serenity and tranquility in it¹s remote setting and with well-spaced tee times. It's a favorite of many Maui golfers.... with its natural rolling fairways, undulating greens, and capitivating ocean and mountain views.
